Dear Client,

Even if you performed the rituals, without your marriage having been solemnised and registered under the provisions of the Special Marriage Act, 1954, your marriage may not legally be recognised. However, because you lived together as husband and wife, you may be said to have a relationship like marriage, which gives you access to the remedies available under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. You can also think about filing a case under the Department of Women and Child Development and Section 69 of BNS, which provides for punishment for sexual intercourse on the false promise of marriage. It is advisable to seek the help of a family law advocate to consider these options. I hope this answer helps. If you have any further query kindly do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you
